THE HISTORY OF BERRY BOYS

Berry Boys Club was founded in 1946 by the late Fred Nunn, Berry Boys and Amateur Boxing Club is the oldest boys club in Basildon; during the 59 years it has been running, the Club has never closed. Although the Boxing and Football sections are currently the most predominant, in the past the Club had full youth club facilities including darts, snooker etc. Run on a voluntary basis the Club is proud of its achievements and both sections are respected in their own sporting circles .

The Football Section reformed in 1977 with a Charity Match against a Sports and Showbiz eleven, the proceeds of which went towards equipment. It has since become what it is today. This year the Section has twelve teams including a senior side,and full girls team, it also participates in many F.A approved competitions and leagues. Over the years several boys have played for professional clubs and represented Essex at County level

The Boxing Section held its first boxing show in 1947 at Laindon High Road School and has since had many subsequent successes including National Schoolboy Champion and National Junior A.B.A Champion. It has also staged many rounds of senior A.B.A bouts up to quarterfinal level

Click Here for full size Over the past 59 years the Club has had several homes; the original being the Church Hall in Salisbury Avenue, Laindon, it then moved to the Old Fire Station in Laindon High Road, it then had premises opposite the Laindon Hotel, then onto premises in Northumberland Avenue, Laindon. As each of these properties has been required for development the Club has been moved on and today we find ourselves at Valence Way,Laindon
